Meet Jake Allen, Help Desk Analyst

Monday, May 15, 2017
People profiles give you a chance to meet our staff - the folks you may deal with on a regular basis here at IT Resource.

What certifications do you hold? I have my BBA in Computer Information Systems, along with certifications for helpdesk related software, CATIA and CAD software, and I’m currently working on some Microsoft certifications as well.

When did you start working at IT Resource? September, 2016

Tell us something your colleagues don't know about you. I was a wrestler back in school and now I train BJJ (Brazilian Jujitsu) which is a submission style of wrestling/martial art. I’m hoping to compete and bring home some gold medals this year to hang at my desk.

What's the most interesting job you've ever had that was not IT related? It’s a toss-up between in-home cooking shows and selling suits/tuxes.

What was the last book you read? The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, who was the last of the so-called five good Emperors in Rome. He was an amazing philosopher.

Or What's one thing you have to have every day? Now that I have to wake up so early every day, compared to when I was in school and wouldn’t take classes unless they were after noon... I would have to say it’s coffee.

If you could meet one famous person, dead or alive, who would it be? It’s between Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bill Nye. They are both very interesting to me in different ways and I’d love to pick their brains.

What's your favorite movie of all time? Let me start by saying I really like film. It depends on my mood and also the day of the week. It could be any one of Quentin Tarentino’s films, anything with Will Ferrell, or anything with Schwarzenegger/other classic action stars.

What's the best place you've ever travelled to? Puerto Rico. I’ve been to the rainforests there, I’ve seen monkeys run across the highway in front of my car, and I had a great time speaking broken Spanish to the locals.

What do you consider to be your greatest success or proudest moment in life so far? I’m going through the process of raising my first dog, and he has made me very proud as a dog-parent. He’s very smart and my whole family loves him to death. I know it’s a silly thing to say he’s my greatest success. However, the way I see it, anyone can go to college and get a degree, and anyone can master an awesome skill if they work hard enough - but I can karate chop my dog and he will play dead for me.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received? Don’t ever do anything you aren’t willing to explain to the paramedics.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? When I was younger I didn’t really spend too much time worrying about what I wanted to do when I grew up. I went through different phases, I wanted to be the world’s best skateboarder, I wanted to be a video game designer, a musician, and many other things. Now I just want to be a guy with a dog, good friends, and a job I enjoy. That makes me 3/3 right now.
